Coaches Corner – Tips

Act I – 1994: Sitting in the Flower Shop Café in Center City, Philadelphia with Jerry, Kay and Joel. The topic of movies comes up. I loved Forrest Gump, they all pooh-poohed it and said Pulp Fiction would be the hit of the year. The next 15 minutes were spent discussing the virtues of Pulp Fiction.

Flip Flop Philosopher Meet Stuart — he’s a twenty-something from the Netherlands who has relocated to Saba. Stuart is a true Nexter — otherwise known as Generation Next, Generation Y, Millenials and Neters. They are born between 1980 and 2000 and have no recollection of the Reagan era or the Cold War. Technology has always been part of their lives, which has changed their thinking & learning styles. There are over 81 million Nexters — more than Baby Boomers — and they represent 30% of the current population. Watch for changes in the work environment as the Nexters enter the workforce. How often do you do what YOU want to do, regardless of what others will think? Try this experiment – I’d love to hear from you about what you found!

After a long hiatus, I’ve started up my yoga practice again. While I can go do yoga overlooking the ocean, I have started my practice in my cottage. I do a vigorous form of yoga called Ashtanga. Ashtanga yoga is really great for type-A personalities because it’s active and challenging. It’s actually the yoga that Madonna made famous, although I didn’t know this when I started.

As I look back on the last year of planning, it’s amazing to finally be living here in Saba! Joel and I planned everything from creating a plan to be able to work from anywhere to getting two houses ready for 6-month living arrangements. It was a lot of work, but we were both passionate about living our dream in the Caribbean.
